Our 3 Day Aboriginal Tour to Cape Tribulation and Cooktown.  This is ideal for people who want free time to relax and enjoy this UNESCO World Heritage-listed area.

Learn how to hunt and gather from the Kubirri Warra brothers.  Visit the famous Bloomfield Falls and The Lions Den Hotel.

Day 1 (L&D) Cairns – Cape Tribulation 7.30am

Your journey of discovery begins as you travel north along one of Australia’s most scenic coastal drives to Cooya Beach. Join Kubirri Warra brothers on one of their beaches, mudflat and mangrove walk.   Linc and Brandon Walker, of Kuku Yalanji Cultural Habitat Tours, follow the traditions of their ancestors. Sharing their knowledge of country and culture by offering visitors a personal and unique glimpse into the Kuku Yalanji way of life.

Your guide will take you through three diverse eco-systems.

Beach, mangrove and coastal reef – connected by mudflats and tidal lagoons learn how to throw a spear, hunt for mussels and mud crabs. Identify and gather bush foods and medicines.

Enjoy morning tea of homemade damper, tea and coffee. We farewell the brothers and travel further north for a 1-hour crocodile and wildlife spotting river cruise on the Daintree River.

Enjoy a picnic lunch before visiting the spectacular Niau Falls. On a secluded 450 acre private property, exclusive to the Bama Way.

The Niau falls are a pristine natural wonder waiting for you to discover. You will see primitive plants and learn about the original French settler family.

Hear of their incredible story of survival. Your guided walk will unlock the secrets of this fascinating eco-system. Time for a swim in this magical rainforest environment (don’t forget your swimmers).

We depart the falls and travel to Cape Tribulation. Cross the Daintree River by cable ferry travelling through the oldest rainforest on the planet.


This evening enjoys dinner beneath the majestic forest canopy of the World Heritage Rainforest.

Overnight at Ferntree Rainforest Lodge.

Day 2 (B, L, D) Depart 10.00am Cape Tribulation – Cooktown

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before we continue on The Bama Way. Head through the heart of the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park. Traversing the 4wd only Bloomfield Track, where we will cross rivers and mountain ranges.

Arriving at Wujal Wujal Aboriginal community, we visit the Bloomfield Falls. You are in the company of traditional custodians from the Walker Family.

Experience a guided cultural walk. Your guide will share some of their knowledge about this unique and sacred place. (1/2 hour walk on uneven ground).

Our journey continues north to Helenvale. We have lunch at the Lions Den Hotel, a famous Aussie bush pub established in 1875.

After lunch, visit Black Mountain. A unique geological oddity, surrounded in mystery and spoken of in ancient Aboriginal legend. Arriving in Cooktown, have your camera ready for the spectacular panoramic views from Grassy Hill of the Coral Sea, Cooktown and the Endeavour River.

Cooktown is one of Australia’s most historic towns. Unspoiled and surrounded by stunning countryside.

Overnight Cooktown, Sovereign Resort OR Seaview Motel

Dinner this evening is at Shadows of Mt Cook. A local restaurant set amongst tropical gardens.

Day 3 (B,L) Cooktown – Port Douglas or Cairns

This morning after breakfast, we depart Cooktown for the 45-minute drive to the Aboriginal Rock Art sites of the Nugal-warra. Meet with Nugal-warra Elder, Willie Gordon of Guurrbi Tours. Willie is the traditional story-teller of the Nugal-warra clan. He will take you to the Nugal rock art sites. Set in stunning countryside high in the hills above Hope Vale.

On the Rainbow Serpent Rock Art Tour, you will visit six sites. Including the Reconciliation Cave and an ancestral Birthing Site. Willie shares the stories behind the art – stories which can only be told by Elders of the Nugal clan. He explains how the paintings speak of the essence of life and the lives of his people.

With his great smile and infectious laugh, Willie gives you a fantastic insight into Aboriginal society and spirituality.

The tour includes an estimated 30-minute bush walk on generally natural terrain.

Water is included, and cameras are welcome.

Return to Cooktown for lunch.

Depart from Cooktown following the backbone of Australia’s Great Dividing Range.

Travel through the spectacular scenery of Far North Queensland’s Outback.

Your tour of surprising discovery comes to a close.

Arriving back to your accommodation in Port Douglas or Cairns early evening.
